Woman Accused Of Shooting Drivers On Florida Interstate Says She Was Directed By God

Authorities say a Georgia woman who allegedly shot and wounded two motorists on a Florida interstate on Monday claimed that God instructed her to do so "in relation to" the solar eclipse.

According to a statement from the Florida Highway Patrol, Taylon Nichelle Celestine, 22, was detained on Interstate 10 near mile marker 96 for a felony traffic stop after being suspected of wounding two drivers a short time earlier.

Prior to the shooting, Celestine "recently checked out of a local hotel and informed the staff that she was going on a shooting spree, directed by 'God' in relation to the solar eclipse," according to the highway patrol.

The highway patrol reports that she was apprehended and lodged in the Holmes County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, aggravated battery with a lethal weapon, and improper discharge of a firearm.

The highway patrol reported that an AR-15 rifle and a 9 mm handgun were discovered in the Georgia license plate-bearing Dodge Challenger that Celestine was operating.

On Monday evening, it was unknown whether Celestine had retained an attorney to provide statement on her behalf. In the vicinity of Bonifay, situated approximately 50 miles north of Panama City, gunfire broke out.

The highway patrol reported that Celestine entered the interstate near mile marker 112 and proceeded in a westbound direction after making the remark at the hotel. Allegedly, Celestine discharged a weapon and caused multiple collisions with other vehicles within five miles of connecting to the interstate.

The highway patrol reports, "The driver sustained a graze to the arm and was struck by glass fragments from the window; nevertheless, he managed to maneuver his vehicle onto the shoulder of the road, thereby avoiding contact with the suspect."

According to the highway patrol, Celestine fired upon another vehicle near mile marker 107 as she continued westbound. It was stated that the driver, who was injured in the neck but survived, was being treated at a hospital.

The Great North American Eclipse, a total solar eclipse renowned for its extensive trajectory across North America, was observable in the atmosphere on Monday across 15 states in the United States, portions of Mexico, and eastern Canada.
